Before you install
Nothing is required to start. Fidolio opens on a sample portfolio so every screen has something in it, and your first import replaces it.
To bring in your own holdings, export your account history from your broker as CSV — Fidelity and Merrill Edge are both read directly, with no column mapping to configure — and import the file. Everything computed from those statements works immediately and offline: balances, cost basis, XIRR, dividends, income and the inflation comparison.
Live prices need one free API key, from any of the four market-data vendors Fidolio supports. Which one to pick, and what each additionally unlocks, is on the data sources section of the home page. Without a key the app still works — it simply shows no live prices.
Your data stays on the device
There is no account to create and no server to sync with. The database is encrypted with AES-256 and unlocked by a master password, or by biometrics where the platform offers them. The only thing that ever leaves the device is a ticker symbol on its way to a quote API.
Because of that, the backups are the recovery path — they are on by default, written automatically whenever you leave the app after changing something. If you lose both the master password and the device, nobody can restore the data for you.
